Mining iron ore, from plane −3 down — with a Stone pickaxe or better — gives 1 raw iron.
An old mine's chest holds 1–5 raw iron 60% of the chests.
An abandoned dwelling's chest holds 1 to 6 things, the dearer the rarer; each is raw iron 1% of the time, 1–3 at a time.
